Emerge USA welcomes Keith Murphy as Regional Coordinator of the Emerge USA PA Pittsburgh chapter!
Keith will serve alongside the PA team to execute the organization’s mission in educating, engaging and mobilizing the American Muslim community in PA and beyond.
For years, Keith has been strongly committed to his role in local civic and political processes. Keith has held multiple educational forums including “Voting with a purpose”, “Your Voice is your Vote”, and
“1 Vote Matters”, all which focus on the importance and need for all citizens to be politically engaged. Keith has also been involved in promoting the value of voting and staying politically involved on a global level. Much of Keith’s international work has been focused primarily in Ghana where the commitment in advocating for the marginalized and disenfranchised based on income, race, and or religion individuals and groups remains an active part of the continued Civil Rights movement.
Prior to joining Emerge USA, Keith worked served as the Executive Director of Bethany House Academy for over 20 years where he served members throughout Allegheny County. Keith also served as Manager for the African American Leadership Academy where he designed and implemented curriculum for youth leadership and collective responsibility. In 2014, Keith was the recipient of the NAACP Community Activist Award 2014 and in 2013 received the City of McKeesport Past and Present Award for Community Service. Keith was also awarded the Proclamation from the City of Pittsburgh in 2007.
Keith is a McKeesport resident and graduate of Serra Catholic High School and St. Vincent College in Latrobe. He’s the founder of Bethany House Youth & Adult Training’s P.O.W.E.R. (Positive Outcomes With Excuses Removed) Program, which aims to build character in children, youth, and young adults.
As Regional Coordinator, Keith will continue his work of strengthening the community through mobilizing citizens and building partnerships with elected officials and other organizations. Emerge USA is honored to have Keith on the team to boost its effort to engage, education and empower American Muslim communities for the purpose of creating a community of equitable, knowledgeable and motivated citizens.
