EmergeUSA to Organize Community Discussion After Mosque Burning in Fort Pierce
The Islamic Community of Fort Pierce was burned down Monday right before Eid prayers were to take place. To help the community cope, EmergeUSA is organizing a community discussion to take place on Friday, September 16 at 1:30 p.m. at the Muslim Friends of Florida Mosque located at 4000 South US HWY 1, Fort Pierce, FL 34982.
Without the Islamic Center of Fort Pierce, the Muslim Friends of Florida Mosque is the only alternative praying location for Muslims in the area. EmergeUSA invites elected officials, the community at large and its leaders to address concerns and explore ways that we can build relationships and move forward after this tragedy. We are also hosting a voter registration drive at the event following the discussion.
"It has never been more important than now for the American Muslim community to organize and create effective change," said EmergeUSA Florida State Director, Tamara Tillman. "This is how we will fight bigotry and we expect our elected officials to support us and engage in these discussions."
