Today under the Trump administration's bullying; discrimination has been given free reign to attack American children. The Trump administration rescinded protective guidance for transgender students in our school system.

In 2016, the Department of Justice and Education issued comprehensive guidance to ensure that transgender students were being treated fairly in public and federally funded schools by providing students equal access to facilities such as locker rooms, sports teams, sorority and fraternities, housing and restrooms that matched their gender identity, respecting their right to privacy as to their transgender status and personal pronouns.

This protection spells out the Department of Justice and educations existing policy for federally funded schools based on an interpretation of civil rights law by the Obama administration. With protections removed, vulnerable and misunderstood transgender students will be targets for harassment and bullying and there will be no support available to CHILDREN in our school system whose civil rights are being violated.

Why should this matter to you? There is an increase in discrimination across the county against marginalized groups and legislation that is supporting policies that promote hate is on the rise. According to the Southern Poverty law centers recent annual census of hate groups released on February 15th, anti-Muslim Hate Groups went from 34 in 2015 to 101 last year. Troubling situations like these remind me of the famous poem by by Martin Niemöller:

First they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist

Then they came for the Trade Unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Trade Unionist

Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew

Then they came for me
And there was no one left to speak for me

The Union of our nation is at stake, and no battle has ever been won alone. It is imperative that we build coalitions to combat discriminatory legislation against ANY of our fellow Americans and work together to ensure that children are NEVER targets of these hateful policies.

EmergeUSA Florida is issuing a call to action for the entire community to contact their Senators and stand up for children. Stand up for EVERY Americans right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
