It's time to tell Congress: we want mandatory on-package labeling for GMOs!
The "Denying Americans the Right to Know (DARK) Act is a bill that would have prevented states from passing their own GMO labeling requirements. It would have also stopped any state labeling laws from going into effect.
Emerge USA is part of a coalition with hundreds of other other organizations that signed letters and sent emails to senators to let them know that anything other than on-package labeling for GMO foods is unacceptable. Spearheading the efforts for this issue are Food & Water Watch organizers.
We deserve to know what we're eating.
Every senator targeted by Food & Water Watch voted against the DARK Act, including Senators Stabenow (D-MI), Bennet (D-CO), Brown (D-OH), Casey (D-PA), Klobuchar (D-MN), Durbin (D-IL), Collins (R-ME), and Kaine (D-VA).
The fight is not over.
The Senate voted down the DARK Act earlier this year, but there’s a chance the bill could come back for another vote. Senator Nelson stood with consumers and voted against the DARK Act. We need to make sure he knows were appreciative of his vote and urge him to continue to vote against any legislation that would result in anything less than mandatory labels for GE foods.
